Hello! I'm Jordann and I'm a millennial money blogger and founder of the personal finance blog, My Alternate Life.

I started this blog in 2012 to chronicle my journey out of debt, and to show that it's possible to be financially secure, even as a millennial. When I started this blog in 2012, I was $38,000 in debt. My debt story isn't one of extreme spending or of being a shopaholic. I didn't have maxed out credit cards or an apartment full of new furniture. In fact, I'd been pretty frugal until this point. Instead, my debt was from a four year university degree, and a used car that I had to buy after totaling my husband's vehicle.

No matter the reason for ending up in debt, back in 2012 I vowed to pay it off, and over the next two years, I did. Since then, I've accumulated a $10,000 emergency fund, bought a home, started investing for my future and moved back to the city I love, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Getting out of debt hasn't been easy, which is why I'm here blogging about it every step of the way to show you that it is possible.

About the Blog

I started this blog five years ago because I was intensely lovely in my debt repayment journey. I was drowning in my debt while working a low-paying job and just trying to make ends meet. But I made it through - in part thanks to blogging - and I hope my archives and tools will give you some inspiration to get your financial house in order too.

Here are my top resources and blog posts for you to get started on your personal finance journey.
